Generative AI and Information Ethics: Resources

AI is becoming increasingly integrated into our lives, but we can educate ourselves on ethical practices for its application in our daily environments.

Our primary recommendation for the Tusculum community is to approach AI critically. While it offers benefits, it can also pose challenges in educational settings. We strongly advocate initiating open dialogues with students early on to discuss perspectives and expectations regarding AI. This ensures alignment on its appropriate use within the classroom. Students should understand their instructors' viewpoints, just as instructors should be attuned to students' perspectives on AI.

We also encourage exploring AI programs firsthand to grasp their functionalities and consider potential uses as educational tools.

  The U.S. Department of Education Office of Educational Technology’s new policy report, Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Teaching and Learning: Insights and Recommendations, addresses the clear need for sharing knowledge, engaging educators, and refining technology plans and policies for artificial intelligence (AI) use in education.

• Generative AI Product Tracker
  The Generative AI Product Tracker lists generative AI products that are either marketed specifically towards postsecondary faculty or students or appear to be actively in use by postsecondary faculty or students for teaching, learning, or research activities. The Tracker is a living document, which we update regularly as new products enter the market or new information about existing products becomes available.
• Glossary of Artificial Intelligence Terms for Educators (CIRCLS)
  This glossary was written for educators to reference when learning about and using artificial intelligence (AI). We will start with a definition of artificial intelligence and then provide definitions of AI-related terms in alphabetical order.

  Georgia Technology Authority’s guiding principles governing the design, implementation, and utilization of automated systems. Informed by industry research and experts, these principles are intended to guide state agencies as they integrate protective measures into their policies and operational procedures.

  The Modern Language Association and Conference on College Composition and Communication have formed a joint task force (co-chairs Holly Hassel and Elizabeth Matthews Losh) to develop resources, guidelines, and professional standards around the use of AI and writing.
