Study Skills: Time Management

A guide to provide information on building study skills, note taking tips and other useful study skills to help students get through their college career.

Staying Organized

One of the most important skills to develop is Time Management. You should always strive to give yourself enough time to get your work done, as well as give yourself a break.

Here are some effective ways to manage your time wisely!

  1. Make a weekly or daily to-do list (Keep a planner or journal)
  2. Use a calendar or planner (use something like Google calendar that can send notifications to your phone!)
  3. Get up early to get stuff done (set alarms)
  4. Reward yourself when tasks are complete (give yourself breaks)
  5. Schedule your “me” time (so it doesn’t eat up study time)
  6. Read the syllabus and make plans from it (make sure you know what's expected of you)
  7. Prioritize and schedule what you need to do – be realistic!
  8. Set aside study/class work hours each day
  9. Have a spot where all studying takes place (Come to the Library!)
  10. Make or join a study group (study with friends or tutors)
